COMMUNICATION SUPPORT WORKER TO OUTREACH CLIENTS
SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Anne Sullivan Centre is looking to recruit a Communication Support
Worker to work as part of their Outreach service. In this
Communication Support role, you would be assisting clients who are
deafblind with many aspects of their daily independent living, both
within and outside their own home. The position is based in the Dublin
area (D * and D *), for
* hours every week. (Days/hours are negotiable,
however an element of flexibility is required). The Clients are
independent, but given their sight and hearing loss, would welcome
some support with the below tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Going shopping with Client for food items on a regular basis and
on occasions, for other items
* Occasionally making and attending with Client,
medical/dental/optical appointments and progressing any follow up e.g.
acquiring medication
* Managing the regularity and scheduling of these
medical/dental/optical appointments and on occasions, booking an ISL
interpreter in advance
* Assisting client with day-to-day house-based tasks such as cooking
and cleaning
* Basic diary management and planning, anticipating and organising
activities and actions to be followed up on
* Understanding, interpreting and processing post/bills/written
communication and assisting Client with any follow up communication or
action that may be required via post, phone, other communication, on
their behalf
* Accessing and understanding information on the Deaf community and
encouraging participation at suitable events and activities that the
client might be interested in (attending DVI, Deaf Usher Group etc.)
* Participating in exercise, walks in the community with Client
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* QQI Level 5 in Health Care or equivalent
* QQ1 Level 3 in Sign Language
* Good level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office, emails,
navigating websites, online shopping)
* Respect for confidentiality at all times
* Available to work evenings/weekends if required
* Flexible individual with caring and empathetic manner
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
* Experience of tactile sign language
* A minimum of one years’ experience in a similar role
* Full, clean Driver’s Licence
* An appreciation of Disability and the Independent living
philosophy
